"Gemma Correll is a freelance illustrator from Norwich, a 'fine city' in the east of England. She has worked for clients including Virgin holidays and Hallmark cards. Gemma enjoys drawing, coffee and pugs."
why did you decide to use gocco?
"I left college and suddenly found myself without any screenprinting facilities. Gocco seemed to be the next best thing."
what do you love about gocco?
"I love that it's so compact and easy to use. I can print 100 cards in my apartment with minimal mess and effort."
how do you feel about the death of gocco? Do you see any parallel to Polaroid film?
"It's a shame that the makers of Gocco couldn't see it's potential to be sold worldwide. I think the Japanese market was totally saturated and they didn't really think beyond that. I guess it's similar to Polaroid in that the producers can't see that they have an important, devoted niche market for their product. Or if they can see that, they don't care."
are you finding hacks or just using other print methods?
"I'm still using my gocco but I'm definately rationing it! I don't know what I'll do when my supplies run out as Norwich has zero screen printing facilities."
are you squirreling away your dwindling gocco supplies?
"Not really... maybe that will happen when all supplies have completely dried up. There are still some available from certain outlets."
have you seen an increase in demand for gocco prints now that they've discontinued the product?
"I haven't seen an increase in demand for Gocco prints.. just an increase in demand for printing supplies. The prices have gone through the roof."
